One of my favorite drives in AZ, the Apache Trail winds through the Superstition Mountains from the Phoenix valley going North-East to Roosevelt Lake. The drive isn't very crowded, and the views range from high mountain overlooks, to creekside ventures through the cottonwood trees and small waterfalls. The landscape is far cooler than the Phoenix valley, and has even gotten a few inches of snow during powerful winter storms.
